D=Details

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Details. I like to know the details of everything and I will usually remember them. By this same token, if I have a conversation with you, I will remember the details of the conversation months later yet I will not remember what the conversation was about. If you need to know some small fact that few other people know, chances are I will remember it from something I previously heard.

a ridiculous raw youth

I really enjoy this blog mostly because it is another blog written by someone near my age. Even if the writer did go to the University of Wisconsin the last school Purdue played before our football program went to hell. There is one particular play in a game that the 68,000 people at that game will remember forever and was also the turning point of Purdue football..

Anyway, enough of discussing sports woes. a ridiculous raw youth is a well written blog that given the length of his posts, I somehow do not find rambling.

About my Blog Roll

Monday, August 13th, 2007

I wanted to take a moment to explain my blog roll. Every blog I list on my blog roll is a blog I actively read or for blogs no longer updated, a blog I used to actively read and believe the archives to be worthwhile reading. As of now, I do not link to blogs solely because they link to me, I link to blogs because they are worth reading. If I ever change this in the future, I will indicate the blogs I actually read in my blog roll.

Although, there are only three currently listed, I read about 20-25 blogs and am constantly adding more. I know that seems like a ton of blogs and a lot of time, but with the right tools it is not difficult. Every blog I read has an RSS feed. RSS is a mechanism for distributing your content so people can read your blog using an aggregator rather than having to visit your site every day to check for an update. This eliminates a lot of the time I spend reading blogs every day by centralizing everything. Although there are many pieces of software and resources that do this, I personally use Google Reader. To learn more about RSS and RSS aggregators visit What is RSS?.

I highly encourage you to use RSS to read My Gay Life. Simply add feed://feeds.feedburner.com/MyGayLife to your RSS reader.

Why do I Run?

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Knowing I am going to be asked this question by someone, I have been trying to answer the question myself. Did I run cross country because I was gay?

This has had me doing a lot of self reflection. I mean cross country means being with a bunch of fit scantily clad guys. What more could a gay guy want? Well I guess a bunch of naked fit gay guys. However, the answer to this question is most assuredly no. I decided I enjoyed running and wanted to run in the fifth grade. Well before I ever realized I was gay, and when I started running it was usually alone, not with other boys.

However, that doesn’t answer the question. The next half is did being gay help you keep running?

The answer to this is a little more complex. I was never good at running, and the decent I was, was the result of a lot of hard work. Dropping 8 minutes from my 5K time in 4 years is a testament to that. Yes, I enjoy the personal challenge and fighting myself every step I take while on a run. However, this alone was probably not enough to keep me running.

So the second reason I give for running is the camaraderie. This probably truly is the reason I ran. There is nothing better for friendship than spending 40 minutes a day together with a group of guys with nothing else to do than talk to each other. We were all great friends and would have done a lot for each other.

Yet despite this, you still have the scantily clad fit guys. So did these guys keep me running? In middle and high school, no. Yes, they were a nice perk and nice to look at, but no they were not the reason I ran. I loved most of my teammates like they were my brother, but unless I knew one of them was gay I never would have considered a relationship with them.

I am sure you noticed I included a caveat to my answer to the question. While in college being gay probably did help convince me to run with the running club. I won’t lie, it helped, but it was not the only reason. I enjoyed the challenge of running and fighting myself every step of the way.

Note for Rent – And what the life of a call boy costs.

As the subtitle indicates, this blog is about a gay prostitute. Well former gay prostitute. It is well written, and an interesting read. As I noted he has left the prostitution business and is going back to school, but his archives are still interesting and his occasional posts now are still worthwhile.

No I did not Come Out

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

So, I missed my Sunday post, and didn’t post it on Monday, or Tuesday, and now it is Wednesday night. Don’t ask my why I missed it as I will mumble, look down, and shuffle my feet. Well figuratively at least.

To be honest, I really do not feel like posting now either. I am a little depressed right now, and don’t feel like writing too much about it. However, to keep the suspense from building too much, no I did not come out last weekend. The topic never came up, and it was not the right setting, although it was the right time. This is probably a good part of the reason I am depressed right now, but it is not the only reason. But lets not go there now.
